OIG Considers Waiving CoPays to be Illegal Kickbacks

Look out – the Office of the Inspector Generals considers routine waiving of copays to be kickbacks and a felony.

Trying to help out patients can have consequences: not only does the AMA consider this practice unethical, but it may be a violation of the physician’s contract with health plans.
